Yesterday, January 8, about 300 refugees and activists gathered in front of the Lager Schnackenburgallee to demand equal rights for everyone, flats instead of accommodation in camps and a right to stay for everyone. We spoke with a lot of people, danced, played football, ate delicious cakes, listened to music from different countries and had a lot of fun. We heard stories of Syrian refugees who fled from the war in their country but are forced to fly back to Hungary in the next days because the German state denied their right to stay. We tried to get inside the camp to speak to refugees but the security of Fördern & Wohnen, the responsible company for the camp, did not allow people to go inside with the stupid argument, we could have been neonazis. We made banners with demands from the Green Party to remind them of their promises (right to stay for the Lampedusa-refugees, abolition of the Lager Horst etc.) in case of a possible SPD-Green. Next Sunday a new government will be elected in Hamburg – but we keep on fighting for equal rights, never mind the f**ing papers!
